WONDERMENT

BRETT DOUGLAS HUNTER x JEREMY SHOCKLEY
March 22nd - May 3rd, 2025

Red Arrow is proud to present,  WONDERMENT,  a two-person exhibition featuring the work of  Brett Douglas Hunter and Jeremy Shockley. WONDERMENT brings together the whimsical worlds of two distinct yet complementary artists. Encouraging viewers to immerse themselves in works where reality and imagination intersect.  While using varied processes, both artists work intuitively, and WONDERMENT symbolizes a world where playful works collide with imaginative, and sometimes-larger-than-life narratives.

Jeremy Shockley, known for his trompe-l'œil smiley face paintings, continues his exploration of storytelling and humor. His new body of work includes mesmerizing starry galaxy backdrops and a poignant reflection on the emotional aftermath of the recent fires in Los Angeles.  Both which showcase Shockley’s ability to render the surreal with a sense of quiet familiarity. Influenced by magical realism, his paintings transform everyday moments into magical narratives, evoking a range of emotions and wonder.

WONDERMENT emcompasses a sense of fun, playfulness, and an escape into a magical realm. Collectively presented, these artist's bodies of work strike an interesting dialogue between space and perception, humor, and emotion, the ordinary and the mystical.

Jeremy Shockley considers painting as a form of storytelling. His paintings alter landscapes using the techniques of trompe-l'œil to create the optical illusion of three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface. Influenced by magical realism in literature, his style of painting adds humor and magical elements into mundane situations in a matter-of-fact way, playfully tricking the viewer's perception of space. He lives and works in Los Angeles.
